Temporary Graduate Visas

The temporary work visa is designed for international students who have completed a minimum of two years of study, either in or outside of Australia. The duration of this visa can be from 18 to 48 months, depending on the qualification and region of study. There are three streams for this visa:

  • Graduate Work Stream

  • Post-study Work Stream

  • Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa

Approximately 75% of applications are processed within 11 months, and eligible British nationals or Hong Kong passport holders may be granted a 5-year visa.

SC 485 - Post Study Work Stream or Graduate Work Stream

This visa is for international students who have recently completed their studies in Australia, allowing them to stay and engage in various activities.

Post Study Work Stream

What You Get:

  • Temporary residence for living, working, traveling, and studying in Australia.
  • Permission to bring immediate family members.
  • Not available if you have held SC 485 or SC 476 visa in the past as the primary applicant.
  • Possibility to apply for a Second Temporary Graduate Visa (TGV) if regional study and stay requirements are met.

Requirements:

 To qualify, you must be under 50 years of age, completed a recognized bachelor’s or higher degree in Australia with a minimum two-year course duration, held a student visa in the last 6 months, and applied for this visa within 6 months of course completion. Health insurance, AFP clearance, and evidence of required English proficiency are necessary. Compliance with health and character requirements is mandatory, and the visa may be denied if there was a previous visa cancellation or application refusal in Australia.

After Visa Grant:

After obtaining the visa, you and any dependents have full-time work and study rights. Failure to meet regional study and stay requirements may result in the inability to extend the visa, and compliance with visa conditions is essential.

Graduate Work Stream

What You Get:

  • Temporary residence for living, working, traveling, and studying in Australia.
  • Permission to bring immediate family members.
  • Not available if you have held SC 485 or SC 476 visa in the past as the primary applicant.

Requirements:

To be eligible, you must be under 50 years of age, completed a recognized degree, diploma, or trade qualification in Australia with a minimum two-year course duration. Nomination of one occupation on the Medium- and Long-Term Strategic Skills List is required. Other requirements are similar to the Post Study Work Stream such as holding a student visa in the last 6 months and applying for this visa within 6 months of course completion.

After Visa Grant:

Similar to the Post Study Work Stream, full-time work and study rights are granted. This cannot be extended like the post-study work stream.

Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa

What You Get:

  • Temporary residence for living, working, traveling, and studying in Australia for up to 18 months.
  • Permission to bring immediate family members.
  • Not available if you have held SC 485 or SC 476 visa in the past as the primary applicant.

Requirements:

To qualify, you must be under 31 years of age, completed a recognized engineering degree at a specified educational institution outside Australia. Other requirements are similar to the Post Study Work Stream.

After Visa Grant:

Similar to the other streams, full-time work and study rights are granted, but an extension of the visa is not possible. Compliance with visa conditions is mandatory.
